Although hair loss seems to be more common in some families than in others, and it is generally accepted to have hereditary patterns, the research into genetically inherited susceptibility to hair loss has so far been inconclusive. Science has failed to consistently prove theories of genetically linked occurrence of hair loss among family members, and so far, a gene responsible for hair loss or baldness has not been found.
