Hair normally becomes stronger and thicker during pregnancy. However, most women experience some degree of hair loss after birth. In some cases, post-partum hair loss can be excessive.

These changes are caused by variations in estrogen levels. The hair gets fuller while estrogen levels are high, and then starts shedding a few weeks after the baby is born, when estrogen levels are reduced.
