Thyroid and hair loss

Hair loss is a common complaint of thyroid disease patients.

The thyroid gland, which is located in the front of the neck just below the larynx, secretes hormones that control metabolism, namely thyroxine and triiodothyronine.

Both an overactive and and underactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism) may cause hair loss. This type of hair loss is usually reversible and can be helped by treatment of the thyroid disease.

It is our recommendation that Bioscal® or Bioscalin® is used to remove obstacles to natural, healthy hair growth, to prepare and stimulate the scalp for new hair growth and to optimize the growth conditions for the new hair. However, underlying medical disorders such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are not affected and should be treated by medical practitioners.
